I spend several hours over consecutive days waiting for Short-eared Owls to appear at feeding time. I arrived on my first morning before sunrise with a +9F temperature. Only one other photographer was present. We had no luck spotting owls. Four northern Harriers were busy beginning their search for food.
I returned later that day around 3:30 p.m. A crowd of nearly thirty other photographers had beaten me to the parking area. A single owl was floating above the grasslands in search of a meal. Eventually, a second owl appeared. The only noise one could hear was the click of camera shutters. None of us were disappointed as you will see.
